Working with Couples and Families in Action!

This June, we turn our attention to relationships as living systems—where patterns are co-created, roles are negotiated, and connection is shaped moment by moment. This training invites professionals to step into Couples and Families in Action, using psychodrama and sociometry to explore relational dynamics in an embodied, experiential way. Participants will work with core themes that show up in couple and family work—attachment needs, conflict cycles, loyalty binds, communication ruptures, repair, and the longing for belonging—while strengthening clinical skills for directing action safely and effectively.

Drawing on psychodramatic role theory and systems-informed practice, we will use guided warm-ups, sociometric mapping, and structured enactments to illuminate the relationship “dance” between partners and within families. Through role development, role reversal, doubling, mirroring, and concretization, participants will practice interventions that help clients move from reactive cycles into clearer expression, increased empathy, and more flexible relating. We will also explore how to work with triangles, multigenerational influences, sibling roles, and the impact of stress and transitions on family functioning—while keeping attention on safety, pacing, and containment in action.

Whether you are newer to directing relational work or wanting to deepen your craft, this day offers practical, supportive psychodramatic learning to help couples and families access new roles, strengthen connection, and practice repair—in action.

What You’ll Learn

By the end of the day, participants will be able to:

  • Use psychodramatic methods to work with couples and family roles in action.

  • Apply techniques that improve communication, connection, and repair.

  • Bring couples/family psychodrama interventions into clinical and group work.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is ideal for mental health professionals, educators, social workers, coaches, lawyers, nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals, managers, team leaders, and HR professionals and anyone interested in incorporating psychodramatic methods into their work. What to Expect

This highly interactive day will include:

  • Warm-ups to build connection and prepare the group for couples/family work in action.

  • Guided psychodrama experiences focused on couple and family roles, patterns, and repair.

  • Integration time for discussion, questions, and connection with fellow participants.

  • Small-group practice with trainer guidance and feedback.

Previous training in psychodrama and/or acting is NOT required. These sessions are for anyone from the first-time participant to individuals with advanced training in psychodrama.

A lunch break will be provided.
